NTT Data is a leading global technology- and serviceprovider. They work with organizations from all over the world to support businesses in their digital transformation with intelligent IT solutions.
At NTT, intelligent stands for data-driven, connected, digital and secure. Worldwide NTT employs 36,000 people, in the Netherlands customers are supported with the help of 350 motivated employees. NTT collaborated with AVOP on a project that focused on improving social safety, because NTT is a multicultrual organisation and considers social safety as a crucial aspect of their corporate culture.
Question:
Approach
In a series of workshops, we explored what a safe social environment within NTT essentially embraces. What is already going well, what is considered a gray area and what is ‘unacceptable’ behavior. We converted the findings into specific situations and behaviors. Subsequently, the insights were taken to the organisational level, translated into an overarching report and shared with the entire managementteam. In an all-managers day, the entire managementteam started working on a set of themes that they found relevant for NTT to make a significant difference for both their employees and their services to customers. Thereafter, smaller projectteams were formed to target certain organisation-wide themes and to implement improvements.
Results
During these sessions, the managers obtained valuable insights by having frank conversations about what social safety entails. They reflected critically on transgressive behavior, ‘the gray area’ and how they can actively contribute to creating the appropriate atmosphere within their teams. In addition, practical tools that managers can apply directly in their day-to-day work were introduced, such as conversation techniques, attitudes and behaviors that support managers in implementing positive change and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding.
Due to AVOP’s contagious enthusiasm, professional approach and use of interactive work methods, our managers were very satisfied. The sessions were experienced as valuable, inspiring and hands-on. The fun, commitment and mutual understanding that occured while sharing knowledge and skills among managers also contributed to the positive learning experience.
